Whether you’re gearing up for your first season as a boat owner or you’re just excited to get back on the water, there are a few things to keep in mind when you’re packing your day bag. Boating is a great pastime for friends and family to enjoy together, but it’s a lot more fun when you have everything you need! Our team at Clarks Landing has put together a brief list of items you may want to bring along.

1. A Stocked Cooler

A good outing always involves a well-stocked cooler of drinks and snacks! Especially if you anticipate staying on the water all day, you’ll need to stay hydrated and fueled. Essential cooler items include water, sports drinks, fruit, and sandwiches. If you travel with younger passengers, make sure to bring drinks and snacks they’ll enjoy, too.

2. A Dry Bag

You might already have a favorite bag for day trips, but when you’re getting on a boat, it’s important to keep your valuables in a waterproof bag. Items like keys, wallets, phones, sunglasses, and extra clothing are a lot safer in a dry bag. You can even look for bags that can float in case they get dropped in the water!

3. Sun Protection

When you spend time on the water, the sun can be even more harsh to your skin. When you pack supplies for your adventure, make sure to include a strong SPF sunscreen with water resistance. You may also want to bring a large hat and breathable protective clothing if you’re especially prone to sunburn.

Make sure to reapply sunscreen every two hours or after being in the water.

4. Towels

Although it’s possible to air dry after a dip in the water, having towels onboard can be a lot more comfortable. They can be used to protect your seating and reduce the amount of water on the deck. You will probably need to pack more towels than you think!

5. Activities

Not everyone will be content with relaxing on the water. Bringing games, toys, floaties, books, music, and handheld devices can keep everyone entertained and occupied for the entire day. Even if you plan to fish or participate in any water activities, it’s helpful to have other options available to enjoy.

6. Extra Clothing

We’ve already mentioned adding extra clothing to your dry bag, but it can have such a huge impact on your day that we want to talk about it again! It’s no surprise that being on a boat often means getting wet. Even if you don’t plan to get in the water, there can be unexpected spray from the waves. Bringing at least one change of clothes can be a lifesaver.
